Om het jaar wordt de Nationaal Congres Engels georganiseerd. Leden uit alle windhoeken en onderwijssoorten zijn van harte welkom!

De NCE wordt gehouden op 20 maart 2026.

Jamie Keddie, chief lesson planner and curiousifier, will present the keynote speech at the NCE. Here is his introduction, in his own words:

The teacher as a storyteller
Storytelling is at the heart of language learning. Stories are in the language, the materials and, of course, the people – our students and ourselves. They are also at the heart of communication. We use stories to connect, to persuade, to understand each other and to make sense of the world. Storytelling is the quintessential 21st-century skill.

In this talk, I will argue that your stories are a fundamental tool for second language teaching. I will show you how to find them and how to tell them. I will build a case for bringing teacher-led storytelling to the front of the class and show you how to use stories to engage students  – getting them thinking, listening, speaking, reading, writing and telling stories of their own in a new language.

I’m Jamie Keddie – chief lesson planner and curiosifier. I’m a teacher trainer, Oxford University Press author, conference speaker, storyteller and occasional standup comedian. Since 2004, I have been creating resources to help teachers structure their lessons, motivate their students and find meaning in their teaching. I have shared my ideas and insights on image, video and story with educators in over 40 different countries. I am an affiliate trainer at Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE) in the UK and a trustee of the Hands Up Project, a charity that connects children, especially in Palestine, through storytelling projects.
