Bureau MVT Nascholing

Datum: 11-12-2018
Tijd: 14.00 – 17.15
Locatie: Aristo Accommodaties, Utrecht
Registeruren: 3
Prijs: 200 Euro

Teaching grammar has a key role in second language acquisition and is seen to be integral to most language lessons. In recent years there is renewed interest for the role of grammar in language teaching, especially in light of developments which highlight pragmatic and lexical-oriented approaches. The workshop om grammar has two parts and aims to improve and augment current grammar teaching. New insights and examples from ELT practice will be used to provide a relevant context so that participants can review and recalibrate their current practice in grammar teaching.

After this workshop you will be able to:

  • Apply new insights from current ELT practice in your lessons
  • Give grammar usage the appropriate learning context
  • Calibrate and improve your current repertoire of teaching methods
  • Augment and expand your repertoire of activities for teaching grammar.

Workshop ‘Teaching Speaking: new practices for the classroom’
Datum: 17-01-2019
Tijd: 14.00 – 17.15
Locatie: Aristo, Utrecht
Registeruren: 3
Prijs: 200 Euro

Teaching speakingSpeaking is the skill that is often seen as the cornerstone of second language acquisition. Yet despite its integral role in most language lessons, it may at times seem difficult to teach. This is one reason why the role of speaking in second language learning is constantly under review. This workshop aims to improve and augment current teaching of this skill while providing new insights and examples from ELT practice. Participants will then have a relevant didactical framework to review and recalibrate their current teaching.

After this workshop you will be able to:

  1. Apply new insights from recent ELT practice in your lessons
  2. Give speaking skills the appropriate learning context
  3. Calibrate and improve your current repertoire of teaching methods
  4. Expand your repertoire of activities for the teaching of speaking skills.

Speaking is a complex skill. When do we for example focus on grammar or pronunciation or what do we need when teaching transactional or interactional modes of communication? That will depend on the purpose of the speaking activity. With this in mind, we will be reviewing criteria that underpin speaking activities in the classroom. We will be looking at:

  • Transactional vs. interactional speaking
  • Scripted vs. unscripted speaking
  • Fluency vs. accuracy in speaking
  • Giving feedback during speaking activities
  • Student concerns when learning speaking skills

Where relevant, you will get teaching tips as we explore examples from classroom practice.

This part of the workshop will present speaking activities and strategies that can enhance the development of good speaking skills in your students. We will be exploring speaking activities which:

  • Highlight technical features of speaking (grammar, pronunciation)
  • Emphasise the role of memory in language acquisition
  • Highlight the role of listening during spoken interaction
  • Highlight the acquisition of new vocabulary
  • Emphasise improvisation in speaking

UK

Once an empire on which the sun never set, The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is still an influential player in world business and politics, though recent events have had a high impact on its position in the world and world politics. The geographical area often colloquially referred to as Britain consists of more than just England, and an important part of Britain’s identity has to do with England’s relationship, past and present, with Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, as well as its former colonies and other (political) partnerships.

This course provides an update in the areas of present-day politics, business, and culture.

Deze workshop hebben we reeds 7x gegeven en 4x in house. Zie bij Reviews wat onze deelnemers zeiden.
